Major: Anthropology/Sociology
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
One of the hardest parts about college applications for me was the essay section. As much as I love to talk, it’s difficult to write about myself! So, I’ll start with the basics.
I live in Los Angeles, California. This fall I’ll be stepping onto the Rhodes campus as an official member of the class of 2012. Until then there are lots of things that need to be done, such as paperwork, Open Rhodes, more paperwork, shopping, packing, probably even more paperwork, and of course, saying goodbyes.
It’s so exciting to be able to share the process of adjusting to college as we progress through summer and into fall. I think I can speak for almost the entire incoming freshman class when I say that we’re very excited, but our nerves are probably going to be kicking in soon, too. From everything I’ve experienced on campus so far, I think we’ll all transition well, and I’m sure we’ll be welcomed right into the Rhodes family.
I haven’t decided on a major yet, but I’m leaning towards Anthropology/Sociology at the moment — though we all know how quickly that can change!
Before deciding to apply to Rhodes, I acted professionally for 6 years. To accommodate my unpredictable schedule, I attended an independent study charter school, and graduated a year early. Since then, I’ve been taking a few classes for fun at a community college on the beach (well, almost on the beach!), and I’ve been learning how to study for midterms and finals, something I didn’t have to do in high school. Now it’s off to Rhodes, where I’ll get to have the ultimate, traditional college experience!
What else? I grew up in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where I had a legitimate “Gettysburg address.” I love to ice skate but there isn’t much of that in southern California. While at Rhodes, I’m looking forward to studying abroad and spending summers doing internships and community service. My dad and I are in the ultimate quest to figure out which restaurant has the best ribs in Memphis.
Now you know a little bit about me, and we can start our adventure! If you have questions or comments along the way, or things you’d like to see an entry about, let me know.
