Hometown: Baton Rouge, LA
The first thing you should know about me, even before I expound on the intricacies of my life and how it got to be so interesting, is that I’m an English major with a strong concentration in creative writing. The second thing is that I am addicted to candy. So if you feel like sending me some candy – I’m not asking for any, but if you want to get on my good side – I recommend Starburst. If you can’t find that, I’d settle for some Stephen T. Colbert brand Eye Candy.
Here’s what you really need to know: I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I love LSU but I love Rhodes more. I’m an independent and play violin for all occasions. (Do you need a violinist? No? I’m sure you’ll think of something.) I’ve been playing since the fifth grade, so references are not a problem. You should probably also know that I’ve played in a few ensembles at Rhodes, I’m on the staff of our literary magazine, The Southwestern Review, and instead of taking more French classes for my language requirement I decided to start fresh with Italian. All that combined is what led me to study abroad in Florence, Italy this semester! What better way to brush up on my fine arts/humanities than going to the birthplace of the Renaissance? I’m looking forward to taking on the special burden of telling you about the tribulations of living in Florence, if I can find any. All the same, I miss Memphis: my home-fries, my Student Academic Support/Registrar coworkers, and especially India Palace’s mango lassi.
Curious to learn more about my life abroad? Leave a comment!

Hi,
It all looks very exciting. Don’t be surprised if you get a message from my father too. Roy sent him the blog info so he called me to ask how to send you a message.
Have fun!!!!

Hello Jenny,
Roy sent a few of his friends this link. I’m very impressed! Enjoy your time – not that it seems you need any encouragement to do so!

Just googled myself and your name popped up. I have the same name as you….by marriage. Trying to piece together family history…do you live in TX or from Mexico? Just curious. Reply if you like.

Dear jenny my name is jason im a theology student in the uk Manchester. Can i ask you are you reading anythig at this time? Will you let me know what your thoughts are on the book. Also what do you think of your new president Obama?
Hi Jason! Right now I’m reading “Invisible Man” by Ralph Ellison, which is really great to discuss but it is sort of heavy on symbolism. Also, short stories by John Cheever and “Be My Knife” by David Grossman. I’m not really knowledgeable about politics… I think that a lot of Americans are catching the momentum of change, and Obama is working to get us out of a stagnant mindset of our country’s problems. As always, thanks for reading!
Nice info and can give an inspiration. its interesting for my kids education blog in indonesian language. thanks ps: can you give me a link from this blog?
Hey Jenny,
I happened to look upon your blog as soon as I got on the site! And go figure, I’m from Louisiana as well (Covington, right by New Orleans). Coincidentally, I’m having a hard time trying to decide whether Rhodes is the right choice for me. I had every intention of becoming a tiger, until I took an interest in Rhodes…HELP! (Preferably by May 1st, seeing as I have to make a decision by then…gulp.)
This was highly interesting
Many thanks to the poster.
