Major: Economics and Business
Hometown: Houston, TX
I extend a big “Howdy!” to all of y’all who are reading this. My name is Christine Lu, and I hail from Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, I don’t actually speak with a Southern drawl, but I do have a lot of Texas pride. That’s one of the things I love about Rhodes College. Everyone here adds a portion of his or her hometown (or state or country) to the one hundred acres of campus – whether it’s a reminder as local as an over-voice appreciation for a certain Memphis barbecue place or as esoteric as packages from Mom sporting a return address in Singapore.
It’ll be my pleasure to chronicle the amazing, random and occasionally incredible experiences that I encounter at Rhodes. There’s no telling what you’ll find in the ramblings of a woman who campaigns for the environment, helps others, listens to her peers, reads constantly, writes sporadically, sings obsessively and – wait for it – tries to make a difference.
While I might be plodding my way through Spanish verb tenses during the day, you’ll get to read about the butterflies that are madly flitting around my stomach as I (and the rest of Rhodes Women’s Chorus) sing to a contemporary composer one of the very pieces that she composed in the evening. Lucky you, but I guess, lucky me, too. I get to relish this entire experience – from the lows of sleep-deprived nights working on a project (with the future aim of getting a degree in Economics and Business) to the high of dancing sultrily in this semester’s musical production.
I hope you enjoy what you read, because I will definitely enjoy describing it to you.
