…then consider submitting an essay to the Rhodes Historical Review! The Rhodes Historical Review is a student journal published annually which showcases outstanding undergraduate history research. We are looking for essays 3,000-6,000 words in length. They can be written for any department and from any year, as long as they retain a historical focus. Essays must be submitted BEFORE Christmas break. If you have any questions or would like to submit your essay, please contact foxsl@rhodes.edu

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the game.

Sign-ups will begin Monday, November 30^th at 9:00am at the 4^th floor Burrow information desk. Sign-ups will continue until all the tickets are sold or until Friday, December 4^th at 5:00 pm. The tickets cost 5 dollars, so please have correct change or a check made out to Rhodes College with you when you sign-up! Each student is allowed to purchase 2 tickets with the second ticket being for another Rhodes Student.

ODK ANGEL TREE CONTINUES

Purchase Christmas gifts for a needy child. Gifts due back Nov. 30.

The Rhodes circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national honor society, is holding its annual “Angel Tree” in the Burrow Refectory lobby. The tree contains the names of needy children who have been identified by the Salvation Army.

Students, faculty and staff can select a child for whom they wish to purchase gifts. Gifts are to be returned unwrapped in the sack provided to Hyde Hall of the Refectory, by 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 30.

ODK Vice President Jackie Hancock ’10 is coordinator of the Angel Tree program. Other ODK officers are seniors Betsy Parkinson (President), Carrie Tennant (Secretary) and Hannah Spirrison (Elections).

Thanksgiving Break Housing

During the Thanksgiving Break, all residence halls are closed except Townsend, Trezevant, Voorhies, East Village and Williford. If you will need housing accommodations for any or all of Thanksgiving Break, you are responsible for arranging to stay temporarily in the rooms of acquaintances residing in the halls designated to be open.

Wednesday, November 18, at 7:00 p.m.

Topics to be addressed include the following:

requirements to enter an M.S. in Accounting program (at Rhodes and at other schools)

requirements to sit for the C.P.A. exam
careers in the accounting profession
Rhodes M.S. in Accounting curriculum and format

This session is intended primarily for juniors and seniors of all majors possibly interested in an accounting career. Even if you do not have an undergraduate major in business, you may be able to meet the educational requirements to sit for the C.P.A. exam in a relatively short period of time. For additional information, please contact Professor Pam Church (church@rhodes.edu). Light refreshments will be served.

Opportunities to get involved with Habitat for Humanity!

Habitat For Humanity will be having a gingerbread house building competition on November 18th from 6-8pm in the Lair. Please come out and show your support for Habitat For Humanity by building a gingerbread house and having some fun!! There will be a $5 entry fee with all proceeds going to habitat for humanity and there is a limit of 5 people per house. We will provide the gingerbread, icing, and candy for decorating but feel free to bring your own candy to decorate also. There will be great prizes for the top winners and we will have sign-ups in the rat and lair the week before this event. Look out for more information about this event around campus as we will have more information about prizes as the time gets closer.

ODK ANGEL TREE BEGINS

“Adopt” a child or senior citizen starting Nov. 5 and return gifts by Nov. 30.

A chapter of IJM-International Justice Mission is being started at Rhodes and we need participants!

IJM is an NGO (non-governmental organization) that works against sextrafficking, slavery, genocide, and many other violent crimes against men women and children.
