Anyone else pissed about parents demanding their children not hear Obama speak at school?

September 8th, 2009 by Philly · 3 Comments

What is this mess about parents trying to get schools to boycott Obama’s pep talk? Apparently some conservatives are saying Obama is going to brainwash their children with his political talk, I suppose on the health care issue, and they are making sure their kids don’t listen. Have you ever heard such craziness?! He’s the president!! I wonder if McCain was president if liberals would be stirring up nonsense to get their children to not hear him speak. Most likely, NOT. Well, in today’s virtual talk to students Obama did not speak of politics, but encouraged children the importance of attending school and getting a great education. Ha, I hope those conservatives feel really dumb now.

Check out the video of Obama’s talk.

I agree. In our current educational system, our students need to be encouraged to look up to good leadership rather than being sucked into political battlefields. Great post Philly.

So what exactly is “good leadership”? Making speeches that are usually sprinkled with falsehoods? Granted, I find Obama to be a phenomenal public speaker, but is that the only reason for his great leadership: the gift of oratory? He makes up numbers in an attempt to prove his points, and as a history major at Rhodes you learn to understand the importance of EVIDENCE and SINCERITY.

However– as to the subject of his talk to the schoolchildren, I think that having President Obama speaking about the importance of attending school and making the most of yourself is a valid, important, and motivating thing. As long as it’s the only thing he’s talking about.
