On August 20, Professor Mary Miller welcomed new students to Rhodes with her talk, “Life at Rhodes: Creating Yourself, Not Cloning Yourself.” Miller was the 2008 recipient of the Clarence Day Dean’s Award for Outstanding Research and/or Creativity.
In this excerpt of her talk, Miller shared a common experience for Rhodes faculty—seeing their students make an outstanding impression on other researchers at academic conferences. Miller attributes this success to the environment at Rhodes, which allows students to develop what she calls “a genuine intellect.”
