Happy spring readers! I hope this post finds you enjoying amazing weather like we are having here in Memphis. Congrats to everyone who made their college decision last week and hopefully you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing your plans are set for the fall. Things around campus are pretty quiet right now, with most students moved out of their dorms and senior week taking place for all our upcoming graduates. The grass is green and I think we’ve moved past that super-pollen time of year, so it is a great time to be in Memphis. The pictures below show Fischer Gardens already getting ready for graduation on Saturday.
Aside from the activities on campus, there are lots of things going on around the city this time of year. I had the opportunity to enjoy a smaller gathering, the 6th annual Southern Hot Wings Festival on the South Main Arts District, right next to the historic Arcade Restaurant. Some of the bigger activities taking place over the next month are included with Memphis in May. This weekend, Tom Lee Park (a great place like Mud Island to go for a run or just enjoy a breeze by the Mississippi River) played host to the Beale Street Music Festival. This is a three-day event featuring lots of bands on four different stages, so if you liek live music, it is event not to be missed! Each year Memphis in May features a different country, this year focusing on Turkey. The month-long festival has been going on for more the 30 years and includes a sunset symphony to finish things off. We will probably make some posts later in the month about the International BBQ Compeition and other events, so stay tuned for interesting updates!
Do any blog readers out there have fun festivals in your own hometown? My hometown of Winchester, Virginia plays host to the Apple Blossom Festival each spring. I know there have to be fun events involving things like peanuts, pies and cooking out all across the country, so make a comment and let us know!
