Condolences

February 6th, 2008 by Tyler · 3 Comments

I’m finally able to start my homework for tomorrow at 10:49 tonight. At around 5, the TTV (Tresevant, Townsend, Voorhies dorms) residents were in the Voorhies basement. We have been there on and off since then.

The storms have past, but there are many who are being held in suspension, both waiting for their life and for other’s lives.

I’m watching the news and people are trapped in collapsed buildings and there are confirmed deaths around Tennessee. This all makes me so thankful that I have been given the constant gift of life and peace. My heart truly aches for those who, at this time, are not experiencing that gift.

Here in Academia, we can relate to the plight of those in the dormitories of Union University in Jackson. As of now, there are students trapped in two collapsed dorms.

For all of the upcoming first-years, don’t let this scare you too much! This happens everywhere, and believe me, Rhodes makes sure all the residents are safe. We have Resident Assistants and ADRL (assistant directors of resident life) that make sure everyone is safe when watches and warnings are issued. To get yourself prepared, make sure you have a flashlight in your room and a blanket other than your comforter…you never know how long a warning will last!

Today was also “Super Fat Tuesday”…a term coined by our theory class to describe that today is Super Tuesday (lots and lots of primaries!) and Fat Tuesday (day before lent…Mardi Gras!).  Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee are currently in the lead for the Tennessee and Arkansas primary vote.

Please keep your thoughts with all the families, organizations, and businesses that have been affected by today’s events. Hope you all had a wonderful “Super Fat Tuesday”!

Signing off,

Tyler

I’m glad to hear everyone is safe from the weather where you guys are. We’ve been following the reports here from Florida and can certainly understand what you’re going through! I’m amazed that you are still finding time to keep up this blog with all that’s been happening. Quite impressive!

I hope tomorrow is a little less hectic for you guys!
